Poem: Shameful Birthday

Someone told me once upon a time,
It was your birthday recently,
I seem to have forgotten,
But I hope you can forgive me.

You see I was distracted by this bird,
It flew across the sky,
Cast a shadow on the ground,
Chasing mine around and around.

It seemed curious to me,
Followed it to a nearby tree,
And I simply lost my way.

By the time it all was done,
I’d forgotten what day it was,
I went on with the day,
And it was rather shameful I must say.
